1 April - Property in need of renovation at RBS

(Picture from Getty Images)

Well it was a day of excitement in London with the first day of the G20 summit, and President Obama gracing the capital with his presence. The protesters were out in some numbers, but the broken window at this RBS branch was as about as exciting as the protests got. I'm not entirely sure what all this means for the ordinary man in the street. Should we be binning capitalism and embracing some other social order (communism / totalitarianism / anarchy)? The drawback with the capitalist system is that it encourages greed. We've known that all along. However it also encourages competition, innovation, and reward for hard work.

Reward for hard work is what renovation is all about, a fair return for the hard graft that we put in when modernising our homes. Even in this current economy there will always be people who are prepared to pay good money for not putting in the work. It's simply a question of finding the right opportunities at the right time and not overspending.

To that end, make sure you have checked out our Buying Costs guide on the website, which will point you in the right direction when coming up with a budget.
