1 September - Moving on up
Progress is reasonably good on the boiler and now the weather has improved vastly. I personally think the corrugated roofing looks
worse than my felt and plywood solution (not to mention being far costlier) but unfortunately I have to obey the Conservation Officer...
4 September - Roofed
The roof is on, and it's up with the cladding. I'm
hoping for a wood chip delivery in a week or two and we can fire her up! |
9 September - Will it work?
The boiler is now ready to fire up and we test it with a bag of chips... all seems fine so we now need a few tons of wood chip. Back to the phones
to try and arrange it.
15 September - Messiah
I take the day off to sing in a fundraising concert, and am pleased to discover that my voice still works despite all the dust I've inhaled
in the past months.
17 September - Northern Rock
Unbelievable scenes in the high streets as people start rushing to get their money out. Let's hope the Government doesn't do anything
stupid.
19 September - The woodchip arrives
Here it is. Two tonnes of wood chip. However, the chap who delivered it didn't dump it into the shed as planned, and I am left to shovel
it in myself. |
20 September - Job done
They say that heating with wood warms you twice, and my goodness that's true on this occasion! Still, I feel it's done me good and
we fire up the boiler and start testing the radiators... |
22 September - Leaks leaks leaks
What a surprise - leaks all over the shop. The new system is pressurised and keeps gradually losing pressure. It takes me days to find
all the leaks, including one I overlooked which was hiding under the floor in the sitting
room and just draining into the earth... Also
the leeks in the garden aren't doing too well and my spell-checker is very confused!
28 September - Dreaming of pork
Our freezers are looking empty and it's time to start planning for this year's pork-fest weekend of making sausages etc. Should
be possible to do something in November, and this year we'll be able to warm up afterwards thanks to the new central heating.
