3 March - Throned in splendour

Thomas Crapper's finest is installed and working.

5 March - Sweet as a nut

I promise this is not going to turn into a tractor blog, but I have just had a visit from the delightful and knowledgeable Mark Pressman from Tractor Bits, who has carefully adjusted my tractor and now it is running beautifully. Moving woodchip will henceforth be a breeze.

7 March - Bathroom finished

Finally, after what seems like far too long, the bathroom is finished. Also it's a lovely spring day and during my lunch break I dug over a good amount of earth ready to plant some spuds tomorrow.

11 March - Lime and woodchip
I have had lots of nice people contact me about the blog, and Bob from my local SPAB group has invited me to attend his forthcoming Introduction to Lime Course. Also I took delivery of another 3 tons of woodchip today and have made good progress shifting it with the Fergie.

15 March - Rot and lintels

I needed to insert some lintels over a new doorway I am creating. Unfortunately once I removed the plaster and bits of ceiling I noticed some fairly horrendous rot to a wall plate, so have had to put in some strengthening timber, but have managed to get the lintels in as well. Obviously this was more damage caused by many years of the roof leaking, but it's perfectly dry now so no further action is needed. Once the mortar (lime-based, of course) has gone off, I shall remove the bricks below to create my doorway.

19 March - Chainsaws
I have been on a chainsaw course to learn the correct way to use and maintain my new chainsaw. I know many people just crack in and start using them, but I think something with a 14 inch unprotected cutting blade deserves some respect...

22 March - Back to the demolition
I have started removing the bricks under my new lintels. There are a surprising number of them, and it's taking me a long time to move them down three stories (along with all the rubble).

23 March - Merry Christmas, sorry Easter

Well it's Easter, so of course we have just made a snowman in the garden...

25 March - Demolition done
I have finished removing all the bricks and rubble, and since the ceiling was in such a bad state I have boarded it out in plasterboard over what remains of the original lath and plaster. This has also allowed me to level it, since there was a 2 inch drop over a 5 foot space, which was rather noticeable.
