5 June - More windows
Still working away at those windows, though I have finished painting the front door!
12 June - Digging for victory
Well it seems like slow progress on the house, but we have just dug up the first few new potatoes, along with lots of broad beans
and peas, radishes and various salad leaves. We've been doing lots of weeding, digging and planting but now have in the ground 7
varieties of spuds, our asparagus crowns (now two years old), a whole load of chard from last year, various salad leaves, countless
raspberry canes, gooseberries, rhubarb, blackcurrants, blueberries and wild strawberries. We have 3 sets of peas and broad beans in,
plus mangetout and dwarf beans. We haven't done runners this year as last year they were so tough! We have parsnip, beetroot, carrots,
and loads of brassicas all just planted out, as well as courgettes and squash, onions, leeks, garlic and celeriac. plus a few dozen tomatoes.
Hopefully we'll be living well in the coming months!
22 June - On the level
I'm back inside as the weather has been a bit rainy for painting windows (and also for a welcome change). I have been putting
plywood onto the walls and floor (prior to tiling) in a new shower room, but discovered there was a 30mm drop from one side of
the room to the other, so have had to create wedges for all the joists in order to level the floor and ensure the shower tray
drains properly. It's never as straight forward as you imagine... |
29 June - Plastered
I have plastered the ceiling (also needed battening to get it vaguely level), and put up the rest of the plywood and installed the
shower tray. Next up - tiling. Also, when the weather has been fine, I've painted up the French windows downstairs. |
