4 February - Mitres
Now I have the mouldings and skirting it's time to get busy with the mitre saw and finally tidy up the last bits and pieces, then it's
out with the trusty paintbrush... |
5 February - Secondary return
Since our house is on three floors the water takes ages to travel round to the hot taps at the top, so I asked the plumber to install
a secondary return on the hot water cylinder. This is a return loop from the furthest hot tap back to the cylinder, which you connect via
a timed pump (for morning and evening showers/baths) which means instead of waiting several minutes for hot water to come out of the tap,
it comes out in a few seconds. However, I had subsequently discovered that they had not run the pipework correctly round the house,
so have spent the day re-routing most of it to ensure that the system works correctly. After lifting many floorboards and moving pipework all
over the place I've turned it back on and, fingers crossed, it seems to be fine now.
8 February - Dreaming of horsepower
We take delivery of a few more tons of woodchip, and while I am shovelling it into our chip store I am getting a stronger and stronger
desire to own a tractor. After some research I decide that I absolutely must get hold of an old grey Fergie. If anyone has one anywhere nearby
please do let me know. Thanks. |
12 February - Still fitting mouldings
Having finished moving the woodchip, I am back to the woodwork and plumbing in the bathroom. |
14 February - St. Valentine's day
My wife and I spend an hour painting together after lunch while the kids are asleep. What could be more romantic?
17 February - Building cupboards
I am now finishing off the woodwork in the bathroom, hiding various pipes and building shelves and cupboards, then painting them.
Nearly there now... |
22 February - Flooring and no power
I've been sanding floors and mending damaged boards. Very slow work. Also, we lost our electricity for 6 hours today, which was not fun,
and put a stop to most of my work!
24 February - Listed Property Show
I popped down to London to visit the Listed Property Show and see
if there were any useful exhibitors. I've found a great supplier of rubbed bricks for window arches, which is handy, but my train home
was delayed by nearly 2 hours, which was not fun at all...
27 February - Did the earth move for you?
Last night I awoke to a loud rumbling noise, and some vibration. Thought a massive lorry had driven past or something but went back
to sleep and then this morning discovered it was an earthquake! I have taken delivery of my new (55 year old) tractor and am very
excited at the ease with which I will be able to shift future piles of woodchip. |
