4 August - Clearing up
I have just done a big clear up of a load of rubbish from around the house and garden and filled nearly fifty rubble bags and also
have a load of old plasterboard etc. as well. I fear I am in for many trips to the tip... |
6 August - Back to Hackney
I am repaying a long-standing debt to a friend who helped landscape my garden when I lived in Hackney, by fitting him a new kitchen.
Of course when he did the garden we lived a short walk apart but now I have to head all the way down to London! Still I can catch up
with a few friends while I'm there for the next few days.
13 August - Kitchen done
Well it's been a hard week, and we've run into various problems but eventually we are all done and the kitchen is looking good. All
that's left is some decorating which I'm sure he can handle on his own so I head home. The courgettes have gone mad in my absence
but otherwise all is well.
16 August - Rain rain...
It's been pouring with rain and our rainwater tank is full, which is great. However the pump that delivers the water back to the house
for flushing the toilets trips our RCD fuse every time it tries to start. After some investigation I discover a horrendous botch by
the plumbers who fitted it, and there is an underground connection which has got water in it. The support team at
FreeRain are incredibly helpful but I will still need to order and fit a new cable
to get it working again. What a nuisance.
19 August - Out and about again
I am spending a couple of days building my brother some bookcases in his house. It's very tight to get it done in a couple of days
but I just about manage and then back home to try and sort out the rainwater and catch up on all the weeding.
22 August - Getting wood
I've just taken delivery of 22 tons of poplar, which I need to season for a year or so but can then chip and use to heat the house.
As oil prices are now nearly double what they were 18 months ago I am very grateful we took the decision to install our woodchip boiler
and it is performing excellently. Also the knowledge that we have enough wood to last us a few years is comforting!
