22 August 2006 - Moving In
It's done. Unbelievable.
I have just had what I can only say is probably the worst day of my life...
It started at 5.30am, desperately trying to pack up our stuff and get it
ready to go. At about 9.30 I couldn't believe we'd ever actually get it
all sorted and out, and was all for just locking the door and running
away in despair. We finally finished loading our four (yes four -
Lutons) tightly packed vans by 3pm, with the new people's movers having
been standing around menacingly since 1pm. Did they help? Did they hell.
We then had to drive to the new place and unload. We did have the
assistance of 3 men and 2 vans from Lincolnshire, plus my sister-in-law and me
loading/driving our two vans. My wife was heavily pregnant so not able to help much!
Drove up, then unloaded the whole lot. Finished
at 10pm. Fell into bed (well onto a mattress on the floor), then set off again at
6am to get the damn vans back to London within the 24 hour hire period, then dash
(late) into work.
I am absolutely shattered. On the plus side, we are moved in, and we still like
the house (just as well, as we are certainly not moving ever again!).
What a day.
Anyway, give me a few weeks to recover and I'm sure it will seem funny
(or not). Will be able to get on with the renovations just as soon as I regain the use of my back...
23 August 2006 - Staying out
Unfortunately I have work to finish back in London, so we head off for two months staying in a friend's flat until we move "properly" in October... watch this space.
